Best Life I-Words – Industrious

Insight Blog Topic Image 100 x 100We’ve all met those people in our lives that are the embodiment of the Energizer Bunny. They just keep going and seem to have a nonstop pool of energy. I’ve had times in my life where I’ve been like this, but I also enjoy periods of down time to relax and unwind. I work hard when I need to and then make sure I find moments to relax. Industrious people don’t need prodding. They find their own reasons for putting the time in and getting things done.

When I was younger I went through a period when I seemed to have trouble finishing projects. It didn’t matter where I was; work, home, and school were all fair game. I seemed to leave a long list of unfinished “to-do’s” wherever I went. I thought I was a hard worker, but what I hadn’t connected the dots on is how inefficient I was. I was wasting so much energy by working hard a little bit at a time. I should have been focusing my energies on something until it was done and I could check it off the list. Industriousness can be great, but how do you focus your energy in constructive ways and avoid wasteful work habits?

Action Blog Topic Image 100 x 100Hard work is often the basis of success and can improve our lives like no other single thing can do. What happens when you’re the only one around you working hard? Do you consider other paths to fulfillment that involve less work?

Metaphors Blog Topic Image 100 x 100I wasn’t always industrious, it’s a skill that I have learned to adopt more intentionally as I’ve aged. I’ve also found that my level of energy is always higher when I’m passionate about the things on which I’m working. What can you do to improve your level of passion, and industriousness? Perhaps you are not working on a job that thrills you much and cannot change. That’s fine, but what other aspects of your life can you change? Is there a hobby you’ve got a yank to start? Is there a cause you’ve been putting off helping? Perhaps there is a community or faith-based mission that needs your help.  Make a change or add something new that you’re passionate about. That’s the best way to boost your industriousness and other people will benefit from it.
