Best Life I-Words – Incredible

Insight Blog Topic Image 100 x 100Have you ever seen the Disney movie, The Incredibles? It follows the life of a family of rather unlikely superheroes. They all have their own individual power, and their true strength is when they work together, rather than on their own. I do believe that we all have a super power. I see evidence for it everywhere. Ironically, our super power is sometimes our Achilles heel, and left unchecked can lead to our unraveling. Identifying yours cannot be emphasized enough.

My super power is my passion and ability to love other people. I have a deep well of love and compassion and am a very emotionally passionate person. It shows up in my work, and personal life. I am drawn to deeply meaningful things and openly share my feelings and perspective with other people. Sometimes I can become drained when there is too much emotional energy around me, and a manipulative person can often use my kindness and compassion against me. It’s taken me a long time to understand my super power and reign it in and develop some skills about how and when I use it. Just like the family of Incredibles, mine is always stronger when I am working in concert with the people in my life and not on my own.

Metaphors Blog Topic Image 100 x 100Find your super power this week. What I mean is, what is the special talent you have? Look for it like you never have before. Name it. Only you know what it is and you must find it. I’ve told you what mine is when we first talked about the Disney Family movie called the Incredibles. What’s yours? I was just reading Sherman Alexie’s memoir entitled ‘You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me’ where he discusses his life as an Urban Indian. He mentions that one of his sister’s super powers was the ability to identify family member’s clothing by their smell as they hung on the line. What unique ability or talent do you have?
